The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from May 2026. ERO found that results are improving and becoming fairer across groups of students.
Almost all students meet the NCEA literacy and numeracy requirements by Year 11, students who need extra help make accelerated progress, most students in Years 11 and 12 gain NCEA Levels 1 and 2, and a large majority in Year 13 gain Level 3.
ERO described coherent leadership, a broad and challenging curriculum, calm and focused classrooms, a values-driven culture and a well-coordinated pastoral network.
ERO also noted that a small majority of students gain University Entrance and that a small majority attend school regularly, behind the Government’s target. Its priorities are to raise the rate of NCEA endorsements, including for Māori and Pacific students, extend the school’s expectations for teaching in line with curriculum updates and research on how students learn, and lift attendance.

Enrolling
Christchurch Boys’ High School has an enrolment scheme, so boys who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. Out-of-zone places are offered under the scheme in priority order, starting with brothers of current students, and by ballot when there are more applicants than places.
